2D Works
Though I consider myself a sculptor, from time to time I am compelled by material and concept to create 2 Dimensional works. Most often, they utilize a material reactivity or responsiveness to presence that resonates with my sculptural and installation-based works. The poetic sensibility with which I engage my visual practice often extends to the written word, which is a strong component of and inspiration for the works below.
In the Air: Unspoken and Unheard, 2023
In the Air; Unspoken and Unheard is a series of printed silk panels featuring excerpts from my longform poem Why I/You. Suspended on white glass basting pins along only one side, the panels of obscured and revealed phrases are mobile, responding to the motions of viewer and passersby.
Accumulation, 2022
Salt formations create a topographic drawing on a 4ft steel panel. Via slow drips of salt-laden water, the image pooled and evaporated naturally upon the steel to leave behind an ephemeral, constantly transforming surface.
Nothing is but an Instance, 2022
A series of 4, 2 x 3 ft panels that illustrate the uncontrolled accumulation of time and trauma via process drawings made with ice, safety glass, and steel.
To Contain it All, 2022
A single sheet of cotton rag paper contains hundreds of questions, which have melted into its surface out of a solid block of ice, obscuring themselves into illegibility in the process.
